Journal Entry Question #10 for Journalism
Is it worth endangering ones' life to get the scoop?
After watching the video on CNN with Peter Silverman, I was extremely shocked. I was terrified because this is whatjournalists get when they try to get the scoop and full story themselves. Some of them can get it worst but they're endangering their lives just to get a story out of them. Journalists go out of their way to get the story they want because it'll attract people to the chaos. It is letting people know what is going on in their society that they don't even know about. I don't think it's worth it endangering your own life for a story because you never know what can happen. What happened to Peter Silverman was bad enough but imagine what else could happen that could be way worse. They're taking risks that can get them seriously injured. People get upset because journalists are invading their business and privacy. I believe anyone would get upset if ANYONE was trying to get in their business. I think that journalist should find a better and safer way to get the story they want. They don't have to show up at their house or outside their work to confront them. It's a lot to risk but journalists just wants the top story and they want to help others not to fall in their traps just like the women in the video. I also believe that journalists and reporters go out of their to get the full story because they want to be known for what they have achieved and the want the money for it. They think it's worth it risking your own life just to be known and to receive a lot of money for it. But it's a good way to show what's happening around us and hearing about the story but it's dangerous for the journalists themselves. Peter Silverman is a brave person for confronting and trying to get the full story on that angry business man. But I would have to say that journalists should set out a limit as how far they're going to go. I think showing up out of the blue in front of their house is just crossing the line. But journalists should know what's coming if they try to get the whole story. In some cases, I think it could be worth it to go to the full extent of getting a story if it would help society. But in my opinion, I just don't think it's worth it risking you own life for.

I like the Silverman portion of CityTV news (I don't know if they still have it). Anyway, I don't
know if reporters actually endanger their lives to get recognition from people. I think that they're just very curious people that want to get to the bottom of things. Their job is to report the truth to the the citizens of the community because they deserve to know what's going on. And yeah, Silverman was extremely brave for confronting the businessman, I definitely would've done what he did just to get a story.
Journalists today are taking alot of risks and to them it is worth it because it's their job and they are driven to get the story. I agree that some lines should not be crossed but at times when people at the end of the road and so close to the truth, i too would take the risk and go for it no matter how much money was involved.
