Journalism Journal Entry Question #7
"Putting out a zine, any zine, is a political act. Whether it's the high school kid who does a zine about Sloan, or the collective's newsletter advocating environmental awareness, both are reclaiming what was essentially theirs to begin with."- Hilary Clark
I agree with this quote about putting out a zine. I think that anyone can just create a zine about anything they wanted. You wouldn’t have to be a journalist or some sort of professional person to make your own zine. A high school kid can easily do a zine on music, politics, the environment, and just about anything. I believe it’s a political act because people who make zines are doing it to convey some sort of message to others. They are sharing their information to others just to see what people have to say. It’s all about communication which is expressing ourselves in the zines. Zines speak about what’s happening around us, the community, friends, family, school, and their future. It’s how one person feels about something that they want to express to the world and where people can relate to as well. I believe zines can change the world. People are writing about their opinions and the happenings around them. They are standing up for themselves by putting information out there. It could really make a difference in our world. Such as someone writing about poverty, about the government, or basically anything can make a difference. Zines are there to state your opinions and any information that people should know. They could also make people think long and hard about whatever you have in your zine. Zines don’t have any advertisement, they have real content and information. My first time making a zine was a good way to speak my mind and put out information that I wanted. Making a zine is an excellent way to express yourself and a way be heard.

HI ANNA!!
HAHA XPOSE TEAM UNIT! But yeah, I get what you're saying that zines are a great way to express ourselves and out opinions. I guess I never really thought of it as a political act. I just thought when we did our zine, we were just talking about what was on our minds and what we were interested in. After reading this, I come to realize that it is a political act because we are saying something and calling it the truth. It may not be the truth for others, but it's OUR truth. So even if people may not agree with what we said or mentioned in our XPOSE! zine, it was an easy and fun way to get away with saying something without getting in trouble.
Hi Anna!
I definitely agree with your ideas about a zine being like a political act, I guess I hadn't really thought about how it can have such a great impact. I really like how you wrote about people standing up for themselves by putting their ideas out there. And plus, I really liked your zine :)
