There has been quite a bit of hype surrounding the new Ninetendo Wii gaming system. Some say that the Wii's ability to "democratize" gaming for people of all ages and abilities is revolutionary. Do you think this is a true technological revolution or just hype? Please defend your opinion.
Nintendo’s Wii is considered a technological revolution. But in my opinion, I just think its all hype. There’s so many changes in technology such as coming out with playstation, XBOX, and now the Nintendo Wii. I think that the Wii is just all around hyped up because just a few months ago, the playstation 3 was finally sold in stores and people were all hyping that up by lining up outside of BestBuy at 5 in the morning. Why isn’t anyone hyping it up now? It seems like all the talk about playstation 3 had died down over a couple of months. I believe it’ll be the same thing for the Wii. Maybe next year another new video game system will launch and everyone will forget about the Wii. Although the Wii is just hype, the Wii puts players in a position where they can take action in the video game and treat it like exercising. It’s a smart way to get people moving while they’re doing something they enjoy. For example, the baseball or football game makes players use their arms which is like exercising. I’ve also heard that playing the Wii can help people lose weight! It’s a great way to motivate people to exercise and move instead of sitting on the couch using your two thumbs on the controller. I believe that the Wii has the ability to democratize gaming for everyone. The name “Wii” itself defines “we” as in everyone in the world. I think that anyone could be interested in the Wii because it makes people involved in the action of the games. But overall, I still think that the Wii is just one big hype. New technology will keep continuing over the years and people would always want something better. Another example is the Ipods. First there’s just the original ipods where people can just put songs on them. And then the year after, there’s an ipod where you can play videos. And the year after that, there’s ipods where they’re super sleek and thin. I wonder what will come up next! Same goes with the video game systems and how technology for video game systems will continue. I have a feeling that later on in the future, another video game system will be invented and everyone will be all excited once again and spend crazy money on the video game system. People can never settle for what they have, we always want something new and better no matter what the cost is.

Life cycles of gaming consoles are so short! It seems like companies just change things up to make a profit.
I liked that 'Wii'/'We' thing. LOL - But seriously, I think you were right about all the hype that surrounded the Nintendo Wii. Yeah it's innovative and we haven't seen anything like it before, but once we get bored of it, then what? People do always want more, and I think that's how our society has grown. It's astonishing how powerful the media is in manipulating the wants of its comsumers. I wonder if it'll ever be possible to ignore the media and all the hype it can create for a product...
I definitely agree with the hype surrounding the Wii. It's not just gaming systems that keep coming up with new ways to make a profit, it's other forms of entertainment as well. I like that point you made about how people always want more and that sooner or later, Wii will get boring and a new technoglogical advance will come up. It seems like companies are always coming up with new, more expensive forms of consumerism.
